Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix cornmeal, flour, salt and sugar in a bowl with a whisk. Add egg, milk and melted butter and beat well until blended. pour into baking pan greased with butter on bottom. Bake on bottom rack 15-20 minutes until bread pulls slightly from the edges of the pan, is lightly brown and springy to touch.
